In late 1941 through 1942 the DAF was engaged in tough air combat with the Lutwaffe. 1 Squadron was hit hard in this difficult time but also shot down many enemy aircraft with their out dated Hurricanes. The severity of the situation is evident when looking at Bomb's fellow pilots page and see the high percentage of pilots being shot down. Bomb flew 143 operational missions in his tour of 1941-1942.
